Short answer: yes — and we can prove it with third-party lab reports, not just marketing claims. Olababy products are made from 100% food-grade silicone and tested by independent laboratories against European baby-product safety standards, which are among the strictest in the world. Below is exactly what gets tested, what the results were, and why it matters — because "BPA-free" on a label means very little unless someone outside the company verified it.
Who tests our products
We commission independent testing from third-party laboratories — most recently Shenzhen Tianqi Testing Technology (TQT), an accredited testing service. Independent means the lab has no stake in the outcome: they test our actual production samples and report what they find, pass or fail.
Our most recent report (No. TQT7737B769E, February 2026) covers the Training Cup with Lid + Straw — and notably, every colorway was tested separately: purple, white, yellow, blue, and green silicone. That matters because pigments are a common place where cheap silicone products hide problems. Testing one color and extrapolating to five isn't good enough.
What the tests found
Bisphenol A (BPA): Not detected. The EU legal limit for BPA migration is 0.05 mg/kg. We set our own acceptance limit at "not detected" — stricter than the law requires — and every sample passed at the detection threshold of 0.01 mg/kg.
Phthalates: Not detected. All seven regulated phthalates (DEHP, DBP, BBP, DIBP, DINP, DIDP, DNOP) were tested per REACH Regulation (EC) 1907/2006. None were found in any color sample.
Heavy metals: Not detected. Lead, cadmium, mercury, arsenic, and antimony were all below detection limits — both as total content and in migration testing (what could actually transfer into food or milk).
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs): Not detected. All 15 regulated PAHs tested per the German AfPS GS standard came back clean. PAHs are a known issue in low-grade rubber and silicone products.
Migration into food: 3x better than the limit. Migration testing simulates real use — the cup filled with hot liquid (up to 100°C), acidic liquid, and fatty-food simulants. The EU limit is 10 mg/dm² of total migration; our results were below 3.0 mg/dm² across all four food simulants.
Taste and odor: passed. A sensory panel per DIN 10955 confirmed the silicone doesn't transfer taste or smell to contents — scoring 0.8 out of a 2.5 maximum limit for taste.
Beyond chemistry: mechanical and hygiene safety
Chemical purity is only half the story for a product a baby drinks from daily. The Training Cup was also tested against EN 14350:2020+A1:2023, the European standard specifically for children's drinking equipment:
The straw withstood a 50-newton pull force for 10 seconds without detaching — that's roughly 11 pounds of force, far beyond what a toddler can apply. The lid stayed closed and leak-free through repeated 1-meter drop tests. No component is small enough to be a choking hazard. Every edge is rounded. After 50 simulated wash cycles, no food debris remained trapped in crevices and no bacterial growth was detected after 24-hour storage.
Tested to both US and European standards
Our products are tested against the regulations of both major markets — and each catches things the other doesn't.
US testing (independent lab report, ASTM F963-17 & CPSIA): Our Feeding + Training Spoon Set was tested by Shenzhen UONE Test Co. against the full US federal framework for children's products: total lead per CPSIA Section 101 (not detected), all eight regulated phthalates per CPSIA Section 108 (not detected), soluble heavy metals per ASTM F963 (all eight elements not detected), and CPSC mechanical use-and-abuse testing. The mechanical numbers are worth spelling out: the spoon survived ten impact drops from 4.5 feet, a 15-pound tension pull, and a 10-pound bite-force test — because that's what real babies do to spoons.
European testing (EC 1935/2004, EU 10/2011, EN 14350): The EU's food-contact and children's-drinking-equipment regulations are broadly considered the strictest in the world, and several of the tests above — like sensory taste transfer and per-color migration — have no US equivalent. Testing to both frameworks means nothing slips through the gap between them.

We're transparent about this on our FAQ and we'll be transparent here: Olababy products are designed in Portland, Oregon and manufactured in China using heat-compression silicone molding. Where a product is made matters far less than how it's verified — which is exactly why we pay independent labs to test finished production samples rather than asking you to take our word for it. The reports referenced in this post name the manufacturer, the sample dates, and the testing period. That's the level of traceability we think baby products deserve.
